Kahuhia Girls School Dormitory was destroyed by fire

On the evening of Tuesday, November 2, a fire broke out at Kahuhia Girls National School.

Firefighters from Murang’a county were seen fighting the fire that destroyed a dormitory at the learning institution in a video seen by Teachers Updates.

Speaking to the media, Murang’a County Commissioner Fred Ndunga stated that all of the students are safe and that no one was injured in the Tuesday blaze.

Ndunga also stated that the cause of the fire has yet to be determined.

Recently, the country has seen a wave of unrest in schools, characterized by fires.

“It has been decided that the half term break will commence on Friday, November 19, 2021. The students will report back on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.

“You are required to bring this information to the attention of all principals of Secondary Schools within your area of Jurisdiction,” the statement from the Ministry of Education to Regional and County Directors of Education read in part.

Recently, schools across the country have been dealing with unrest on their campuses, which has been characterized by an increase in the frequency of fire outbreaks.

Vihiga Boys High School Fire

The fire in Kahuhia occurred just hours after the government announced that secondary school students would begin their mid-term break on Friday, November 19, 2021.

The decision was made in response to mounting pressure, which had been exacerbated by widespread cases of unrest in secondary schools in the previous three weeks.

According to a notice issued by the Ministry of Education on Monday, November 1, secondary school students will go on half-term break and return to class on Tuesday, November 23, 2021.

The notice was sent to all secondary school principals in the jurisdiction’s area.

Kijabe Boys High School in Kiambu was closed indefinitely on Monday after a dormitory caught fire.

The fire, which started during breaktime, damaged the belongings of 40 students, including uniforms, books, and bedding.

A fire destroyed a dormitory shared by Form 2 and Form 3 students on September 26, three days before the end of the first term.

The school had to close two days early due to the weather.

The school’s board of management was in a meeting in the boardroom during Monday’s fire when they heard students screaming.

Charles Opondo, deputy police commander of Lari sub-county, and Geraldine Barasa, assistant county commissioner of Kijabe, were summoned to assess the situation.

According to Opondo, no one was injured, and the cause has yet to be determined. 

Wanjema requested that the school administration and parents assist the police in their investigation of the incidents.

He stated that fire incidents have occurred in various schools and that it is time for schools and parents to sit down and figure out what is causing it.
