JSS Teachers Urge TSC to Deploy More Teachers

Teachers in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) in Bungoma are calling on the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) to deploy more teachers to their schools due to the heavy workload that the current limited staff are experiencing.

In an interview with The Star on Thursday, a JSS teacher in Kimilili constituency, who preferred to remain anonymous, stated that the government had promised to provide all the necessary resources to support JSS education.

However, when he was posted to his current school, he found nothing to start with, including some of the required textbooks for Christian Religious Education and Social Studies.

The JSS teacher argued that if the government is committed to improving JSS education, then it must post teachers who are specialized in their subject areas. This would not only reduce the workload for the existing teachers but would also enable the students to receive quality education.

Meanwhile, David Musila, a trustee of the National Fund for the Disabled of Kenya, has urged the TSC to deploy more teachers in special schools.

Speaking during the commissioning of three classroom blocks worth Sh2.5 million at Namawanga Special School in Bungoma on Wednesday, Musila called on other organizations to support special schools.

Martin Towet, the head of Kaptola Special School in Mt Elgon, praised the Ministry of Education, stakeholders, and TSC for supporting the region to get a special school. Towet also urged sponsors to help the institution become a boarding facility.

Posting specialized teachers to schools would go a long way in ensuring that students receive quality education, and teachers are not overwhelmed by the workload.

Additionally, support for special schools is crucial to ensure that students with special needs receive the necessary education and care they require to achieve their full potential.
