Inside Prof. George Magoha’s Ksh.250M Estate
On Thursday, March 20, 2019, Professor George Omore Magoha disclosed his total net worth of Ksh250 million during his appearance before the Parliamentary Committee.
He had been nominated as Cabinet Secretary for Education by former President Uhuru Kenyatta and was later vetted and approved by the National Assembly.
Magoha listed various sources of income in the documents presented to the vetting committee, such as rental properties, investments in treasury bills, income from his profession, and cash deposits.
Professor Magoha informed MPs that he had been saving money since he began his career as a lecturer in the Department of Surgery at the University of Nairobi in 1988.
After being appointed as the Cabinet Secretary of Education in March 2019, Magoha received a basic salary of Ksh 554,400, a house allowance of Ksh 200,000, and a market adjustment of Ksh 169,600, which totaled Ksh 924,000.
As a result, his net worth increased during the administration of former President Uhuru Kenyatta.
While at the Ministry of Education, Magoha continued to implement reforms that led to a significant increase in the number of students attending high school.
Together with former President Kenyatta, he initiated a policy for 100% transition from primary to secondary education, with the goal of ensuring education for all Kenyan children.
In January 2023, Magoha was appointed as a Professor at Maseno University.
Unfortunately, he passed away at Nairobi Hospital on Tuesday, January 24, 2023.
