I Will Be Remembered For Delivering CBC Project – Magoha
Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha has stated that he wants to be remembered for ensuring the successful implementation of the Competency-Based Curriculum.
The CS stated that he is determined to combat corruption and all negative forces in order to ensure that the CBC classrooms are delivered on time.
Magoha stated that he will not allow any individual to derail his and the government’s efforts to complete the project.
“I am not going to let any county not to complete the first phase of the CBC project as scheduled,” he said.
Kenyans, according to the CS, will one day honour him for the CBC project and his extraordinary footprints for the service provided.
The first phase is scheduled to be finished before the end of the current national examinations.
Approximately 6,470 CBC classrooms are expected to be completed. The construction of the remaining classroom blocks will begin immediately following the exams.
Magoha has stated that he will not hesitate to terminate contracts for slacker contractors who are dragging the government project down.
The CS assured that the government will pay the contractors fairly for the work submitted, but that shoddy work will not be tolerated.
He did, however, say that contractors who may be fired will be paid based on the work done.
The government has set aside Sh8.1 billion to build over 10,000 CBC classrooms across the country.
According to Magoha, each classroom is currently costing Sh788,000, saving the government approximately Sh460,000.
According to Magoha, the average Kenyan price for projects is Sh1,260,000.
Many leaders, he claims, have opposed him because of his firm stance on preventing Kenyan funds from being embezzled.
He told his detractors that they had hit a brick wall and that there was no money to be stolen.
Magoha stated that the CBC classrooms were 80 percent complete, with Meru, Garissa, Mandera, and Wajir counties leading the way.

He stated that the construction of junior secondary classrooms was 90% complete in all Nyanza region counties and would most likely be completed by next week.
According to Magoha, over 3,000 classrooms have already been completed, with 2,000 at the roofing stage and the remainder at the walling stage.
He made the remarks while commissioning two CBC classrooms at Kwale Deaf High School and Tsimba Secondary School in Matuga, Kwale County, on Thursday.
The CS expressed concern that the Kwale project was moving too slowly, and he asked the local administrators to ensure that the contractors expedited construction.
Magoha also announced a week-long extension of the construction of Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) classrooms in secondary schools to allow contractors who have yet to finish their work to do so.
He revealed that approximately 3,500 classrooms have been completed so far, with the government aiming to build 6,470 classrooms across the country.
At least 129 CBC classrooms are expected to be built in Kwale’s 89 high schools.
