How Blocking Magoha’s Motorcade Changed KCSE Candidate’s Life

How Blocking Magoha’s Motorcade Changed KCSE Candidate’s Life

David Tajeu, a student at Olkejuado High School, was one of hundreds of students who benefitted from the 100% mop-up exercise conducted by former Education Cabinet Secretary, George Omore Magoha.

Tajeu’s journey to accessing education was not an easy one, as he had to pull a courageous act to attract Magoha’s attention.

In 2020, after sitting for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exams, Tajeu stood his ground and blocked Magoha’s convoy in Kajiado.

Despite efforts by Magoha’s security detail to drag him off the road, Tajeu persisted and eventually, Magoha disembarked from his car and engaged with the student.

With the help of his teacher, Tajeu informed Magoha of his financial problems and was moved by his courageous act. Magoha helped Tajeu enroll at Olkejuado High School.

Tajeu remembers, “If it were not for Prof Magoha, I would not be here. He met me on the road and brought me to Olkejuado High School.”

Tajeu’s teacher also corroborated the story and said, “I decided to stand on the road and stopped his motorcade. Luckily, the vehicles stopped, the Professor alighted from his car and came (toward us). I explained the situation to him and he really appreciated my efforts. He vowed to help the boy.”

Tajeu’s wish was for Magoha to witness his excellent performance as a form of gratitude during his Kenya Certificate for Secondary Education (KCSE) exams in 2023.

However, unfortunately, Magoha passed away before he could see Tajeu’s success.

Tajeu said, “At one time, when I was about to go home because of school fees, I was told by the school principal that I should not go out because Magoha had brought me here.”

According to Fredrick Njoroge, Principal at Olkejuado High School, Tajeu scored 368 in KCPE and is expected to score a Mean Grade of A in KCSE.

Njoroge hailed the student for his exemplary and consistent performance in high school and urged the current Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, to emulate Magoha and help needy students join various institutions. Njoroge stated, “His demise saddens us because he will not be able to witness the fruits of all his efforts.”

In conclusion, Magoha’s efforts to help vulnerable families access education have made a significant impact on the lives of many students like Tajeu.

His legacy will continue to be remembered and appreciated by the students he helped.

It is now up to the current Education Cabinet Secretary, Ezekiel Machogu, to continue Magoha’s efforts and ensure that every student has the opportunity to access education and achieve their dreams.
