Headteachers In Charge of Junior Secondary Until 30th December —Machogu

The government has announced that all Junior Secondary Schools will be managed by the heads of the respective public primary schools in which they are housed.

CS Education Ezekiel Machogu, on the other hand, stated that this will be on an interim basis until December 30.

Machogu addressed at the Kenya National Examinations Council office in Nairobi on Friday during the announcement of the 2022 KCSE exam.

He stated that a special sub-committee will be formed by the Board of Management of a primary school that houses the junior school.

“The committee will spearhead the management of education and resources of the school,” Machogu said.

“The head of the primary school that domiciles the junior school will serve as the secretary, while the chairperson will be a member of the committee.”

He stated that all private junior schools will be required to have boards of management and directors.

Section 52 (a) of the Basic Education Act of 2013 requires this.

President William Ruto’s CBC task committee recommended that junior secondary students be housed at existing primary schools.

The CS also stated that the government will spend Sh18 billion on capitation for junior secondary school students.

Each learner would receive Sh15,000 per year, with Sh4,000 going toward infrastructure development, with laboratories receiving priority.

A total of Sh9.6 billion will be spent this year, with funds scheduled to cover periods one and two.

More than 14,000 public schools have been evaluated, with 13,000 meeting the standards to host the students.
