Headteacher Cries After Poor School Performance, Dismisses Results.
The principal of Moi DEB Primary in Bungoma County, Kenya, shed tears as the school’s result on the 2022 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) was abysmal.
Kelvin Wanyama, the school’s headteacher, criticized the examiners for the lackluster performance and accused the Ministry of Education of influencing the school’s results.
The dissatisfied headteacher reported that his child had received 334 points and requested assistance from sub-county directors to remedy the issue.
The school’s top student earned 365 out of a possible 500 marks.
“I am also a parent in this school. My son who had selected Maranda for his high school education had gotten 334 marks. I don’t know how to share this news with him,” Wanyama stated in tears.
Wanyama convened a meeting with the parents of the candidates on Wednesday, December 21, to discuss the problem that is currently threatening to produce discontent among students.
During the meeting, the Headteacher summoned the Sub County director to provide potential answers to their dilemma.
“ You have seen your children studying and struggling. This is not fair. You cannot compare these pupils with other pupils from other schools. We want the sub-county director to come and give us answers,” Wanyama lamented.
The sub-county director did not, however, publish a comment regarding the matter.
The school administration appealed the results to the Ministry of Education in an attempt to receive different results.
“ We want to make an appeal. These are not the results of this school,” the headteacher added.
In the neighboring county of Kakamega, Governor Fernandes Barasa pledged to cover Otieno Lewis Omondi’s high school costs in full.
“It was a pleasure to join you for the festivities. “Good academic performance is the result of concerted efforts by teachers, parents, students, and the community,” Barasa stated.
On Wednesday, December 21, Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education, released the 2021 Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) results at Mtihani House.
The CS said that over 1.2 million students participated in national tests, with the best student earning 431 marks. He confirmed that every applicant would be admitted to secondary schools.
“All the candidates whose results I am releasing today will be admitted to Form One, under the 100 percent transition policy,” he stated.
