Grade 4 Schoolgirl Found Dead After Missing On Sunday.

A sad mood has descended on Katheleu village, Igembe Central, Meru County, following the discovery of a naked body of a 10-year-old schoolgirl who went missing on Sunday in a riverbed.

Justa, a fourth-grade student at Mwerongai Primary School, appeared to have been defiled and strangled before being dumped in the Bwathunaro gully near Maili Tatu.

According to witnesses, the deceased was bleeding from her private parts and was half-naked, with her hands tied behind her back and her mouth gagged with a shirt.

Ms Fridah Gacheri, the girl’s distraught mother, said the girl was sent to buy sugar from a nearby shop on Sunday afternoon but did not return home.

The family launched a search Sunday evening but called it off in the hopes that Justa was being mischievous and had gone to see a relative.

Ms Gacheri described how they learned the heartbreaking news that the body had been discovered by members of the public, effectively ending their hopes of finding her alive.

“We were optimistic that she would return and thought she had lost the money and was afraid of coming back home.

“The hope was shattered after someone told us that the body of a young girl had been spotted and it fitted her description. She was wearing her school pullover, white blouse and white shoes,” she recounted amid tears.

The girl’s grandfather, Joel Mucheke, expressed his family’s grief over the incident and demanded that her killers be apprehended.

Residents requested that the police increase security in the area due to an increase in cases of insecurity caused by an increase in the number of bars and idle men in the area.

The body was taken to the mortuary of the Nyambene sub-county hospital.
