Grade 2 Pupil Shot Dead In Turkana’s Bandits Attack
Suspected bandits attacked Napeitom village in Turkana East sub-county on Thursday evening, killing two people, one of whom was a Grade 2 student.
According to Sylvester Lobuin, an ECD teacher at Napeitom Primary School, a group of about 20 armed bandits stormed the school and began shooting indiscriminately.
The schoolboy was hit and killed on the spot, while another group of assailants shot and killed a middle-aged woman in the village.
The bandits are then said to have fled with more than 130 shoats (sheep and goats).
Turkana East MP Ali Mohamed Lokiru condemned the incident, calling it “unfortunate,” and blaming the government for inadequately facilitating Napeitom Police Post.
“There are only 2 policemen in Napeitom, they were overpowered by bandits…we want the Inspector General of Police to intervene over this sporadic, well-calculated attacks that aims to scuttle the peace process,” said the legislator.
Turkana County Commissioner Muthama Wambua told the press in Lodwar that patrols in Turkana South and East have been increased to pursue the bandits.

The bodies of the deceased are still at Napeitom, awaiting transport to the Lodwar mortuary for postmortem examination.
The attack came after a similar one in Kainuk, Turkana South, in the early hours of Wednesday night, in which over 3000 shoats were stolen and have yet to be recovered.
