Govt Disburses Sh9.6 Billion Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) Capitation

At least Sh9.6 billion has been released as capitation to junior secondary schools (JSS).

The Ministry of Education released the funds necessary to implement the Junior Secondary Schools program nationwide, according to Belio Kipsang, Principal Secretary for Basic Education.

Speaking on Wednesday at Sacred Heart Mukumu Girls High School, Kipsang stated that the government has made significant strides toward stabilizing the JSS program.

Kipsang highlighted the government’s progress in stabilizing the JSS program and stated that Sh9.6 billion capitation had been released to JSS at the beginning of the week

The Public Service officer stated that at the beginning of the week, Sh9.6 billion capitation had been released to Junior Secondary Schools. He further added that the government was making significant progress in terms of settling down the JSS.

According to him, the Sh9.6 billion in capitation funds will pay off the Sh4.2 billion in textbook debt.

The distribution of textbooks had been delayed for three weeks due to a Sh6 billion debt.

The Sh3 billion balance owed to publishers for the distribution of Grade Six books last year was still outstanding as of last month from the government.

To print and distribute 18.3 million seventh-grade textbooks, an additional Sh3.2 billion has not yet been released.

Kipsang said the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) has posted 30,000 previously recruited teachers.

However, challenges remain with outstanding debts owed to publishers and the need for additional funds for printing and distribution of textbooks.

The efforts made by the government, including the posting of 30,000 teachers through the TSC, signify progress in addressing these issues and ensuring that JSS learners have access to quality education resources.
