Govt Announces Form 1 Scholarships to Students With 280 Marks & Above in KCPE; How to Apply

The Ministry of Education, in collaboration with the Equity Group Foundation and the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation, has announced scholarships for underprivileged and vulnerable students who attained at least 280 on the KCPE examinations in 2022.

In an advertisement published in local newspapers on Tuesday, January 17, the Ministry confirmed that the Elimu Scholarships program is available in all 47 counties, as well as informal settlements in 15 major centers.

However, candidates with special needs and disabilities as well as orphans who attained below 280 will also be considered through affirmative action.

In addition, girls and boys from refugee camps who attained at least 240 and 250 marks, respectively, would be considered.

“Only candidates who sat the 2022 KCPE exams from public schools and those from camp-based primary schools in Kakuma, Kalobeyei and Dadaab are eligible,” the statement read in part. “

During the interviews conducted by the Community Selection Advisory Committees, candidates who have been shortlisted will be accompanied by their parents/guardians.

“Please note that only the candidates who meet the stipulated requirements will be considered for the scholarship,” added the statement.

The scholarship covers school costs, transportation to and from school, school supplies, and a stipend (pocket money) for four years of education.
