The Sports Extravaganza of Technical Institutes Begins in Siaya.

Following a two-year hiatus caused by the Covid 19 outbreak, Siaya Institute of Technology will host the Kenya Association of Technical Training Institutes’ Western region sports extravaganza, which begins tomorrow (Thursday).

The three-day extravaganza, according to Western region KATTI chairman Daniel Randa, will bring together 27 teams from various technical training institutes in the Lake Region, which forms zone “A” of the Western circuit.

Randa, who is also the principal of the Siaya Institute of Technology, told the media ahead of the event that two special needs institutions would be among the 27 teams that would demonstrate their prowess in various sporting activities.

“Two special needs institutions for the deaf and blind will be represented here,” Randa said, adding that football, volleyball, and netball would be part of the sporting extravaganza.

He stated that the organizers have put in place the necessary safeguards to ensure that the Ministry of Health protocols on Covid 19 are followed, the most important of which is the requirement that all players present full vaccination certificates.

“Nobody, including coaches and trainers, will be allowed onto the pitches unless they have full Covid 19 vaccination certificates,” he said.

Randa also stated that no cheering squads would be permitted on the fields during the games, and those non-participating students would be barred as part of efforts to adhere to Ministry of Health protocols.

Zone “B” includes 27 institutes from Siaya, Kisumu, Nyamira, Migori, Kisii, and Homa Bay counties, according to him.
