Gachagua Was Bright & Ordinary: Primary Schoolmates Reveal

At Kabiruini primary school in Nyeri county, Rigathi Gachagua was a brilliant student who displayed a kind disposition toward his classmates.

This is according to Joseph Omumbe, a former classmate, who said that Gachagua’s generosity made their school days exciting.

Joseph, a mason in Mathira, recalled Gachagua as an ordinary student with whom they used to play marbles back in the day. He was astounded that the former Mathira representative had risen to become the country’s second-in-command.

“He was an ordinary child like any other and we never thought he would climb the ranks to such heights. He was a generous person and would always share what he had with us,” Joseph noted. 

Another classmate, Mary Maina, who attended school with Gachagua between 1971 and 1977, remarked that he was a brilliant student who excelled in the exams.

“He was a bright learner and fond of Mathematics and English. He would emerge among the top performers,” she noted. 

Maina expressed confidence that Gachagua’s skills and attributes made him the ideal candidate for the arduous task.

“The country is fortunate to have elected a hardworking person. So, we are anticipating that he will fulfill the promises he made such as reviving the agricultural sector,” she highlighted. 

On Tuesday, September 13, Gachagua will be sworn in as Vice President as the Kenya Kwanza administration assumes office.
