This comes amid calls for a thorough investigation into the recent increase in school fires in public secondary schools.
Last week, fires broke out in nearly five public secondary schools across the country.
Maranda High, Kakamega High, Mwala Girls, Nyamira Boys, and Nambale High are among them.
Each of the 2,200 students at Kakamega School has been ordered to pay Sh9,823 before returning to school on November 15.
In a memo dated November 11, the school estimated that the cost of rebuilding the burnt infrastructure would be Sh12.1 million; the cost of double-decker beds would be Sh4.1 million; CCTV installation would cost Sh695,000, and the cost of damaged items for 560 students would be Sh4.5 million.
Senators summoned Education Cabinet Secretary George Magoha last week to discuss the recent spate of school fires.
In a question to Parliament, Kaloleni MP Paul Katana requested that investigations be carried out to determine the cause of the arson attacks.
“What mechanisms has the Ministry put in place to establish the root cause of incidences of arson in public secondary schools in Kaloleni and to further forestall any new occurrences?” he said.

Katana also asked Education CS George Magoha to explain the compensation policy for structures that were demolished.
“What measures has the Ministry put in place in meeting the cost of renovating the razed down facilities in order to ease the financial burden already incurred by parents and guardians,” Katana said.
