National Music Festival Finals Begin at Maseno University

The top Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) schools in Embu were filled with excitement as nine schools from the county qualified for the 94th National Music Festival finals.

Recent Eastern Regional Music competitions at Kitui Technical Institute crowned the nine schools as the best in the region, securing their spots at the prestigious event.

The Kenya Music Festivals, which have been on hiatus for two years due to the outbreak of the COVID-19 virus, will take place on September 16-17 at Maseno University in Kisumu County.

Mwea and Micegethiu ECDE schools, the reigning national champions in the singing and choral verse categories, are hopeful of defending their titles at the National Music Festivals in Kisumu.

Jeremiah Ireri, the county director of Early Childhood Development Education (ECDE) in Embu, is optimistic that Mwea and Micegethiu ECDE schools in Embu will successfully defend their titles due to the preparations made by their trainers and the county government’s generous support.

The Director of ECDE further noted that he is confident that Mwea and Micegethiu ECDE will perform before President Dr. William Ruto at the Kisumu on September 24 during the state concert.

Ireri stated that Mwea and Micegethiu ECDE performed before the president at the Nakuru State House in 2019 after winning the Nakuru County National Music Festivals.

According to him, the County Government of Embu has always been at the forefront of implementing the CBC co-curricular in order to ensure that ECDE classes participate in extracurricular activities, namely music, drama, and sports.

“The County Government of Embu has always been at the forefront of implementing the CBC curriculum to ensure that the ECDE students participate in extracurricular activities, particularly in the areas of music, theater, and sports,” he stated.

Ireri added that the County Government has traditionally financed extracurricular activities by assuring the availability of necessary materials and meeting other logistical requirements.

According to the director, Cecily Mbarire is passionate about ECDE and vocational training centers, and added that the governor is increasing financing for ECDE to develop the sector.

He stated that more money would allow them to acquire more CBC-compliant learning materials.

Iveche ECDE, Kirima ECDE, Mashamba ECDE, and Mbuinjeru ECDE are more schools from Embu that qualified for National Music Festivals.

Nine ECDE institutions will compete in singing games, choral verse, and stage pieces.
