Ksh.100,000 Parliament Naming Competition; How To Apply.
The Parliamentary Service Commission (PSC) has invited interested parties to submit names for the nearly finished building that will house the offices of National Assembly and Senate members.
The Parliamentary Service Commission hinted at the best name for the new building in a public announcement.
The name should reflect Parliament’s role in society as well as its vision for good governance and representation.
A name that honors underrepresented groups in the legislature, particularly women or minority groups who have made significant advances but have not received adequate historical recognition, is also encouraged.
Interested parties should drop off their applications at Parliament buildings or send them via email to [email protected] and [email protected].
The winner will receive a Ksh.100,000 cash prize.
Here’s how you can take part in the contest.
– Go to the parliamentary website and download a submission form.
– On the submission form, fill in the following information:
– Your name, phone number, and address.
– The building’s proposed name
– One line to justify the name and up to 250 words to explain why you believe the name is appropriate for the structure.
– Declaration and signature The form must then be returned to the 4th floor of Protection House by June 20, 2022, at 11 a.m.
However, there are some dos and don’ts when it comes to the favorable name. They are as follows:
– The building cannot be named after a living person. A person must be fully retired (or deceased)
– The name must be memorable and reflect constitutional values, the status of the Parliamentary Service Commission, and its legislative role.
– If a person’s name is chosen as the winning building name, the name/person must go through a due diligence process and obtain legal permission to use prior to Commission approval.
– The name should not be protected by copyright, trademark, or any other legal means.
– Submissions that are deemed vulgar, unprofessional, deceptive, or otherwise maliciously motivated will be disqualified in Phase I before being shared in Phase II.

Following the submission of names, an Evaluation Committee will shortlist ten suitable names before narrowing it down to one in phase three of the competition.
The committee will also be free to make changes to the winning name.
