Coast Region School Games Begins

Schools from the six coastal counties of Kenya will compete for top honors when the Term Two regional games commence on Friday at Shimo La Tewa Secondary and Shanzu Teachers College Grounds.

The championship will allow selectors to assemble teams representing the region at the national competition slated for next week in Nakuru.

Coast Region Secondary Schools Sports Association (CRSSSA) secretary Omar Munga stated they anticipate strong teams representing their region in Nakuru following the three-day competition.

“Everything is ready from pitches, referees to players and we expect a tough competition from all participants after some weeks of training,” Munga said.

According to Munga, soccer, lawn tennis, netball, and basketball will be played on Shimo La Tewa High School grounds, while hockey and handball will be held in Shanzu.

Munga, the secondary school principal at Concordia, noted that the minimal funding allotted to schools compelled them to reduce the tournament duration from three to two days.

In boys’ football, defending champions Serani will seek to dominate and defend their title against Lamu County’s Kizingitini in their season opener.
