Eldoret University Student Stabs Himself and Girlfriend

A male student in his third year at the University of Eldoret is in critical condition at the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital after allegedly stabbing himself in an attempted suicide.

The incident occurred at his girlfriend’s house in the Sogomo estate on the outskirts of Eldoret town, where the male student was discovered lying in a pool of blood next to his girlfriend’s body.

According to the police, Elkana Korir, the male student, stabbed his girlfriend, a second-year student at the same university, before turning the knife on himself after an argument.

Although Korir is still a suspect, the police have yet to interrogate him as he recovers in the hospital. Soy Sub-county police commander Henry Zuma stated that the male student had visited his girlfriend in her rented house outside the university premises, where the disagreement ensued.

The body of the deceased was taken to the Moi Teaching and Referral Hospital mortuary. The incident has raised concerns about the mental health of university students, who are often under a lot of pressure to perform well academically and balance their personal lives.

“The suspect had visited the young lady in her rented house outside the university premises where an argument ensued,” said the Soy Sub-county police commander Henry Zuma.

Depression, anxiety, and other mental health issues can arise as a result of the stress and pressure of college life, and it is critical that students seek support if they are experiencing difficulties.
