The new Principal Secretary for Early Learning and Basic Education, Dr Julius Jwan has directed education officials to visit dormitories and toilets used by learners whenever they inspect and supervise learning institutions.
He noted that the officers need to go where students sleep and also inspect the condition of the toilets to establish friendliness of the learning atmosphere in the schools.
Dr Jwan’s directive was issued when he met senior education officers, led by the Director-General Mr Elyas Abdi at the Kenya School of Government (KSG). The occasion was also attended by Country Directors of Education and their colleagues at the sub country levels.
The PS informed against guided visits of schools, saying the officials must scrutinise every part of the school, including classrooms, dormitories, and toilets.
The basic role of the Quality Assurance and standards system is to conduct school inspection and supervision to ensure quality control through regular inspection and continuous supervision of instructional and other educational services in learning institutions.
