Clerics from the Full Gospel Churches of Kenya are urging the Kenya Kwanza Government to reconsider its decision to eliminate the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB).

President William Ruto said he has spent the remaining four months of his presidency preparing the education sector for a revolution.

Ruto promised to abolish Helb and TVET funding and create a national skills and funding council to unite the two levels and boost academic progression.

The clerics urged the Head of State to reconsider his decision to eliminate HELB loans, noting that they have greatly aided university students from disadvantaged backgrounds in completing their studies.

Led by Bishop Gideon Kirima, who is the Overseer of the Isiolo and Tigania West regions, they want the high cost of living and insecurity addressed, particularly in the country’s northern region.

Bishop Kirima stated that the current prolonged drought scenario has already exacerbated the problem of the high cost of living, putting strain on Kenyans in afflicted areas like Isiolo.

Kirima, who spoke on Saturday in Oldonyiro during a consecration service for Rev. Samuel Letaapi, urged President Ruto to consider revising the current tax regime.

He noted that high fuel and electricity prices have impacted production and transportation, resulting in high prices for all other goods.

Bishop William Thirari, the retired patron of the Isiolo Pastors’ Fellowship, stated that the President’s recent inauguration encounter with the media demonstrated that he is cognizant of the difficulties facing Kenyans.

To address the situation, he encouraged the Head of State to take swift action.

Thirari also applauded Interior CS Kithuure Kindiki’s plan to arm chiefs operating in areas prone to insecurity, noting that the move will considerably boost the administration officials’ efficacy and assist them in resolving the insecurity challenge in their respective areas.

To revitalize the Education sector, Ruto stated that the government planned to invest more money in it.
