Bhang-smoking students escape arrest by jumping out of moving matatu

Detectives in Kirinyaga are looking for 14 students who jumped from the windows of a speeding Nairobi-bound matatu after being caught smoking marijuana. Fred’s Grammer mixed secondary school students had boarded a Matatu owned by 2NK SACCO.

They were on their way to their mid-term holiday when they arrived at the Karatina bus station. However, as the driver, John Maina approached Kibingoti on the Nyeri-Nairobi highway, he detected a strong scent of cannabis sativa emanating from the back of the matatu.

When he looked in the rearview mirror, he was surprised to see billowing smoke as the obviously ecstatic youngsters shared a joint amongst themselves while others drank alcoholic beverages.

The concerned driver encouraged them to stop at some point, but the inebriated students grew violent, threatening him with severe repercussions, while others advised him to mind his own business and focus on getting them to Nairobi.

The driver, enraged by the students’ impolite behavior, decided to take them to the Sagana police station. The students, on the other hand, who were quick to detect the unexpected detour, hurriedly exited from the vehicle as it approached the station.

They risked their lives by jumping from the matatu’s windows, leaving their half-smoked joints, half-filled bottles of alcohol, and bags behind.

Detectives from the Sagana police station summoned the school’s principal after the incident to assist them in identifying the students.
