Amazon Offers 10,000 Opportunities to Kenyan Students; How to Join
On Tuesday, April 4, the Ministry of Information, Communication, and the Digital Economy announced plans to train 10,000 students using AWS Academy.
Amazon Web Services confirmed the programme by stating that Kenyan students will learn web technologies, particularly Cloud Computing.
During the announcement at Connected Kenya 2023 in Diani, the CEO of the ICT Authority, Stanley Kamanguya, stated that President William Ruto’s government seeks to open up the country through technological revolution.
“In our 10-year ICT Digital Masterplan 2022-2032, we identified a gap in universities and colleges’ misalignment with industry needs.
Kamanguya noted that the programme they were announcing that day with AWS aimed to bridge the gap between academia and industry. He further added that they were very excited to roll it out and looked forward to further expanding the opportunity to students in other tertiary institutions.
Students from higher education institutions will be prepared, according to Amazon Web Services, for industry-recognized certifications and careers in the cloud.
Amazon has confirmed that starting in June 2023, students will be able to enroll in a ready-to-teach cloud computing curriculum aimed at preparing them for in-demand jobs and industry-recognized certifications.
According to Amazon, the curriculum will also enable educators to stay up to date with AWS Cloud innovation, allowing them to equip their students with the necessary skills to succeed in one of the fastest-growing industries.
Those who have successfully completed the courses will be prepared to apply their practical cloud skills in entry-level tech roles.
The American company explained that cloud adoption is rapidly gaining traction on the job market, and as a result, students must acquire the necessary skills.
“Companies large and small around the world are investing in their future with the cloud and need individuals with cloud skills to help them achieve their goals.
According to LinkedIn data, cloud computing is one of the most in-demand hard skills, as stated by Amazon.
Computer Learning Centre (CLC), an AWS Training Partner in East and Southern Africa, has confirmed that ten public universities in Kenya will benefit from the programme.
“We at CLC are honored to support ICT Authority’s mission to train and certify 10,000 young people through AWS Academy,’” noted CEO, CLC AFRICA Aunally Maloo.
