As part of the government’s commitment to a 100 percent transition policy, Machogu emphasized that all students who sat for the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will transition to Grade 7 in accordance with this policy.

All 1,253,577 applicants who sat the 2022 KPSEA test will enroll in junior secondary schools, according to Machogu.

Education Cabinet Secretary (CS) Ezekiel Machogu has offered private schools a lifeline while announcing form one placement.

The CS disclosed that when placing candidates in various schools, the government did not take into account whether the candidate attended a public or private primary school.

In addition, he disclosed that all 1,230,588 candidates who sat the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) exam in 2022 were placed in secondary schools across the country.

“The Ministry of Education placed students to various secondary schools using merit, choice, and availability of space,” the CS revealed the criteria used.

The placement of candidates into national schools and special needs schools was based on their preferences.“We have a total of 106 national schools in the country, we placed all candidates who scored 400 marks and above in the national schools of their choice.

“The same criteria were used to place candidates at Special Needs schools where they were placed according to their choice,” the CS stated.

According to the Ministry of Education, 18,794 girls and 20,178 candidates were assigned to national schools of their choosing.

Similarly, 871 female candidates and 948 male candidates were placed in their preferred special needs schools.

The remaining candidates were placed in secondary schools based on merit and space availability.

“In Subcounty schools across the country, 372,459 female and 387,203 male candidates were admitted.

“This is the highest number of placements and most of the schools in the Subcounty category are day schools,” the CS announced.

According to the CS, county schools received 107,461 female and 91,566 male candidates.

In contrast, extra-county schools received 111,105 female and 91,566 male students.
