70 Year-Old-Man Arrested for Defiling Schoolgirls

A 70-year-old man is being held by Tharaka-Nithi police for allegedly defiling two girls aged seven and eleven at Kirangare Sub-Location in Tharaka South Sub-County.

Kirangare Assistant Chief Geoffrey Kimbo confirmed the incident, saying the elderly man was arrested on Friday night and is being held at Marimanti Police Station.

The suspect was hired by the minor’s father to look after his livestock.

Last Monday, the girls’ father left for Nairobi, leaving his two daughters and a younger son in the care of the elderly man.

“We arrested the suspect who is accused of defiling the two girls,” said Mr. Kimbo.

The minors’ father told police that when he returned from a trip to Nairobi on Friday night, he discovered the suspect in the same bed as his daughters, who were sleeping naked.

The suspect denied sexually molesting the girls after initially refusing to open the door.

He claimed that when questioned, the younger girl admitted that the older man had inappropriately touched her and threatened her with dire consequences if she reported the incident.

The girls were taken to Marimanti Level Four Hospital, where medical reports revealed that they had been sexually abused.

“I went to Nairobi on Monday, leaving the old man with the children only to come back and find that he had defiled them,” said the father, adding that his wife left following a domestic row.

Mr Kimbo warned parents not to leave their children with strangers or relatives who turn on them. He stated that exposing children to such dangers constitutes child neglect, which is punishable by law.
