4695 Students Gets Ksh.31 Million Bursaries In Homa Bay
Kasipul constituency, located in Homa Bay County, has received Ksh. 31 million in fees bursaries from the National Government Constituencies Development Fund (NG-CDF) to support needy students.
The area Member of Parliament (MP), Charles Ong’ondo Were, stated that the bursaries would ensure students can stay in school and focus on their studies. He noted that they had provided bursaries to 4,695 students since the schools reopened earlier this year.
The MP explained that they began vetting four months ago before the release of standard 8 pupils’ results, and they have since sorted 2,300 day scholars, 1,399 boarders, and 996 tertiary level students.
He further mentioned that Kasipul was ranked the best in the latest audit in terms of bursary allocations, and the distribution of the bursary was transparent and fair. He noted that the allocation was done per polling center, with each center producing 40 beneficiaries.
The MP reiterated that students from day schools were allocated 50% of the bursary, while their counterparts in boarding schools and tertiary level took 20% and 25%, respectively.
He stated that the percentage of day scholars in each polling center was higher than the other categories, which was why they received the lion’s share of the bursary.
Moreover, the MP highlighted that they had undertaken several programs aimed at improving learning in schools, including purchasing school buses, constructing laboratories and libraries, and improving roads within the constituency to enhance accessibility.
In conclusion, the Kasipul constituency has received Ksh. 31 million in fees bursaries from the NG-CDF to support needy students. The allocation was done per polling center, with each center producing 40 beneficiaries.
The MP reassured the public that the bursary distribution was transparent and fair, and students from day schools received the largest portion of the bursary.
