The Gucha sub-county bursary committee has identified 46 needy students in the area for the Presidential Secondary School Bursary (PSSB).

The students, who are either total or partial orphans from low-income families, will receive Sh30,000 per year for their school fees for the four years they will be in school.

The Presidential Secondary School Bursary Scheme, a flagship program under the country’s Vision 2030 blueprint, was launched as a supplement to Cash Transfer to orphans and vulnerable children (CT-OVC).

It is consistent with the 2010 Constitution and the Children’s Act of 2001, both of which uphold the right to an education.

The Presidential Secondary School Bursary is available to partial or total orphans from low-income families who received at least 250 marks in their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams and are enrolled in secondary boarding schools.

Kenya is also a signatory to the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child (UNCRC) and the African Charter on the Rights and Welfare of the Child (ACRWC), both of which recognize access to quality education as a fundamental right for all children.

The government empowers less fortunate children to achieve their full academic potential through programs like this.

Children who are orphaned, either partially or completely, from a vulnerable family, scored at least 250 points in their Kenya Certificate of Primary Education exams, and are enrolled in secondary boarding schools are eligible for PSSB assistance.
